Xi’an City ‘The Belt and Road’ International Students Scholarship at Northwestern Polytechnical University, China Established in 1938, Northwestern Polytechnical University is a non-profit public higher education institution located in the urban setting of the large city of Xi'an (population range of 1,000,000-5,000,000 inhabitants), Shaanxi. Officially accredited and/or recognized by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of the People's Republic of China, Northwestern Polytechnical University (NPU) is a large (uniRank enrollment range: 25,000-29,999 students) coeducational higher education institution. Northwestern Polytechnical University (NPU) offers courses and programs leading to officially recognized higher education degrees such as pre-bachelor degrees (i.e. certificates, diplomas, associate or foundation degrees), bachelor degrees, master degrees, doctorate degrees in several areas of study. This 81 years old higher-education institution has a selective admission policy based on entrance examinations and students' past academic record and grades. The admission rate range is 70-80% making this Chinese higher education organization a somewhat selective institution.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Eligible Countries: All nationalities
  • Acceptable Course or Subjects: The scholarship will be awarded for an undergraduate,  postgraduate, and doctoral degree in any subject offered by NPU in China.
  • Admissible Criteria: To be eligible, the applicants must meet all the given criteria:
  • Good physical and mental health (no infectious or physical or mental diseases affecting normal study).
  • Applicants applying for undergraduate programs should hold a high school diploma and be under 30 before September 1st, 2023. Applicants applying for the Master’s program admissions should hold a bachelor’s degree certificate and be under 35 before September 1st, 2023. Applicants applying for the PhD program admissions should hold a Master’s degree certificate and be under the age of 40 before September 1st, 2023.
  • Applicants should have good learning abilities and academic performance. A previous academic grade level requirement is an average score of 75% and above.
  • The global standard tests SAT/ACT/A-Level/AP/IB/IGCSE/WAEC/GED/GRE/GMAT are also accepted by NPU.
  • Language Proficiency Requirements: Applicants should have Chinese/English language proficiency that meets the application and admission criteria.
  • The applicants shall be non-Chinese citizens with valid passports.
  • The applicants who used to be Chinese citizens but later immigrated to other countries must hold the passports or the citizenship certificates of their current countries for at least four years in addition to the 2-year “proof of residence” in the last four years.

  • First-level winners are exempt from tuition fees, accommodation fees, and living allowances are provided.
  • Living allowances:
  • Undergraduate: 1500RMB/month*12months
  • Master: 2000RMB/month*12months
  • PhD: 3500RMB/month*12months
  • Second-level winners are exempt from tuition fees, and living allowances are provided.
  • Living allowances:
  • Undergraduate: 1500RMB/month*10 months
  • Master: 2000RMB/month*10 months
  • PhD: 3500RMB/month*10months
  • Third-level winners are exempt from a 50% tuition fee, and living allowances are provided.

  • PhD: 3500RMB/month*10months

Application Process

  • How to Apply: To be considered for this award, applicants must be admitted to the for master’s or PhD degrees at the university. Applicants should log in to the online application system at the beginning. After the admission process, students must apply online application system is the only acceptable method and is only available before the deadline.
  • Supporting Documents: The applicants are required to provide the following documents:
  • A clear photocopy of a valid passport, Notarized highest diploma, Official academic transcript, Two letters of recommendation, The acceptance letter from the Supervisor, The applicant’s study or research plan in China, Notarized copies of research achievements, Language proficiency certificate, Non-criminal record, Physical examination report.
  • Chinese citizens must provide:
  • The certificate proving that the applicant obtained the foreign nationality at birth;
  • For applicants who used to be Chinese citizens but later immigrated to other countries, these applicants shall provide the certificates of cancellation of Chinese nationality.
  • Admission Requirements: Applicants applying for the undergraduate program should hold a high school diploma and be under 30. Applicants applying for the Master’s program admissions should hold a bachelor’s degree certificate and be under 35. Applicants applying for the PhD program admissions should hold a Master’s degree certificate and be under the age of 40.
  • Language Requirement: Applicants must be able to demonstrate proficiency in English using an internationally recognized test, e.g., TOEFL, IELTS, or equivalent.
