Every year on April 26, World Intellectual Property (IP) Day is celebrated to recognize the importance of IP rights in promoting innovation and creativity. This year’s theme, “Women and IP: Accelerating Innovation and Creativity,” highlights women’s role in driving innovation and creativity and the challenges they face. As part of this celebration, WIPO Nigeria Office is hosting an essay competition for students to showcase their thoughts and ideas.
The WIPO competition invites all registered undergraduate and postgraduate students from recognized tertiary institutions across Nigeria to participate in the 2023 National IP Essay Competition. The topic, “Gender inclusivity as a strategy to drive innovation and creativity in Nigeria,” aligns with the theme of the day. Participants are to address the current challenges faced by female artists, creatives, inventors, and entrepreneurs in using the IP system, ways to encourage more women to use the IP system, the benefits of gender parity in the IP system, and policy recommendations to support gender inclusivity.
