VISTA Training International Doctoral Scholarship at York University, Canada for PhD Founded in 1959, York University is a non-profit public higher education institution located in the urban setting of the large city of Toronto (population range of 1,000,000-5,000,000 inhabitants), Ontario. Officially accredited and/or recognized by the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities, Ontario, York University (YU) is a very large (uniRank enrollment range: 40,000-44,999 students) coeducational higher education institution. York University (YU) offers courses and programs leading to officially recognized higher education degrees such as bachelor degrees, master degrees, doctorate degrees in several areas of study. Eligibility Criteria

  • Eligible Countries: All nationalities
  • Acceptable Course or Subjects: VISTA Core and Associate Members will generally have an appointment in one or more of the following graduate programs:
  • Psychology
  • Kinesiology & Health Science
  • Electrical Engineering & Computer Science
  • Biology
  • Physics & Astronomy
  • Mathematics & Statistics
  • Philosophy
  • Science & Technology Studies
  • Digital Media
  • Film
  • Visual Arts
  • Admissible Criteria: To be eligible to apply, applicants must:
  • Applicants must have applied or be applying for full-time admission to an eligible graduate program at the doctoral level at York University.
  • Applicants must be registered as new doctoral students in the program to hold the scholarship.
  • Applicants must be supported by a VISTA Core or Associate Member who would become their supervisor. If their primary supervisor is an Associate Member, a Core Member must also be identified to co-supervise.
  • Include a mandatory advisor to enhance interdisciplinary expertise for the proposed project.
  • Conduct research in the vision sciences that is aligned with the VISTA program.

Offered Benefits

York University will provide $10,000/year for up to 48 months, including any previous VISTA Master’s award to selected domestic and international students.

Application Process

  • How to Apply: Apply along with all required documents to by the application deadline.
  • Identify and confirm a VISTA Core or Associate Member supervisor and a co-supervisor. If the primary supervisor is an Associate Member, a Core Member must also be identified to co-supervise. To apply, candidates must have applied or been accepted to a full-time program in an eligible department.
  • Supporting Documents: Must email the following documents and completed forms:
  • Two recommendation letters
  • Application formOne-page summary of the proposed research
  • Voluntary  self-identification survey
  • Masters transcripts (electronic copies acceptable)
  • Curriculum Vitae
  • Referee Form
  • Use the application  checklist to ensure the package is complete.
  • Admission Requirements: If students currently hold or have held a VISTA Masters award, they must provide: 1. Proof of application this school year and 2. Evidence of application for external funding.
  • Language Requirement: All students need appropriate English language skills to study at York University in Canada.
