The King Carl Gustaf Scholarship is aimed at students who live in unsafe and dangerous conditions in areas affected by conflict or natural disasters. The scholarships will cover the full cost of tuition fees for studies at Uppsala University. It is for Master’s programmes that start on 28 August 2023 and are offered during the current admission round. The scholarships do not cover living expenses.

Uppsala University 2023 King Carl Gustaf Scholarship for Developing Countries for Master Established in 1477, Uppsala Universitet (Uppsala University) is a non-profit public higher education institution located in the urban setting of the large town of Uppsala (population range of 50,000-249,999 inhabitants), Uppsala County. Officially accredited and/or recognized by the Utbildningsdepartementet, Sverige (Ministry of Education and Research, Sweden), Uppsala Universitet (UU) is a very large (uniRank enrollment range: 30,000-34,999 students) coeducational higher education institution. Uppsala Universitet (UU) offers courses and programs leading to officially recognized higher education degrees such as bachelor degrees, master degrees, doctorate degrees in several areas of study. This 542 years old higher-education institution has a selective admission policy based on entrance examinations and students' past academic record and grades. The admission rate range is 70-80% making this Swedish higher education organization a somewhat selective institution. International applicants are eligible to apply for enrollment.

Eligibility Criteria

  • You must be a citizen of one of the following countries: Afghanistan, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Ethiopia, Iraq, Mali, Mexico, Nigeria, Somalia, Syria or Yemen.
  • You must show why you are particularly vulnerable and therefore in need of the educational environment at Uppsala University, as well as that you have the academic talent required.
  • You can only be awarded a King Carl Gustaf scholarship for a Master’s programme at Uppsala University chosen as first priority (the programme which you have ranked the highest of the four programmes you can choose at University Admissions).
  • You must have applied for the Master's programme before the University Admissions deadline.
  • You must meet the entry requirements for the programme you applied to. The application fee and your complete supporting documents must be received by University Admissions before the deadline.
