This scholarship opportunity is part of the Royal Society of New Zealand’s Marsden Grant-funded project, titled He Rau Ringa: Engaging ethnic communities in a Tiriti o Waitangi-centred framework of sustainable citizenship.

University of Waikato PhD Scholarship in Ethnicity, Citizenship and Te Tiriti o Waitangi, New Zealand Established in 1964, University of Waikato is a non-profit public higher education institution located in the suburban setting of the large town of Hamilton (population range of 50,000-249,999 inhabitants), Waikato. Eligibility Criteria

Eligible Countries: Open to all countries
Acceptable Course or Subjects: The scholarship will be awarded in any subject offered by the university
Admissible Criteria: To be eligible, applicants must meet all the following criteria:

  • Hold a Masters degree in Social Sciences or Humanities, preferably in Policy Studies, Political Studies, Communication Studies, Management Studies, or Indigenous Studies
  • Have an interest in issues around citizenship and sustainability
  • Possess familiarity with the Aotearoa New Zealand political and social context
  • Demonstrate experience in conducting qualitative primary research
  • Exhibit an ability to write clearly and succinctly
  • Show a commitment to meeting project deadlines.

Interested candidates are required to submit the following documents:

  1. A cover letter outlining their interest in the project
  2. Curriculum Vitae (CV) including qualifications, publications, or research experience
  3. Copies of academic transcripts
  4. A one-page statement of research interests/proposed topic
  5. Names and contact details of two referees
