The University of South Australia, in collaboration with the trustee of the estate of Gordon Samstag, late of Naples, Florida USA, is pleased to announce the availability of Anne & Gordon Samstag International Visual Arts Scholarships for talented students.

The scholarships are open to visual arts graduate students from Australia. These scholarships are a testament to Gordon Samstag’s dedication to the development and education of Australian artists. The scholarships aim to provide support for Australian visual artists to study and enhance their artistic capacities, skills, and talents outside of Australia.The University of South Australia (UniSA) is a public university located in Adelaide, South Australia. University of South Australia Anne & Gordon Samstag International Visual Arts Scholarships for Course Established in 1991, University of South Australia is a non-profit public higher education institution located in the urban setting of the large city of Adelaide (population range of 1,000,000-5,000,000 inhabitants), South Australia. This institution has also branch campuses in the following location(s): Whyalla, Mount Gambier. Officially accredited and/or recognized by the Department of Education and Training, Australia, University of South Australia (UNISA) is a very large (uniRank enrollment range: 30,000-34,999 students) coeducational higher education institution. University of South Australia (UNISA) offers courses and programs leading to officially recognized higher education degrees such as pre-bachelor degrees (i.e. certificates, diplomas, associate or foundation degrees), bachelor degrees, master degrees, doctorate degrees in several areas of study. This 28 years old higher-education institution has a selective admission policy based on students' past academic record and grades. International applicants are eligible to apply for enrollment.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Eligible Countries: Australia
  • Acceptable Course or Subjects: The scholarship will be awarded in any subject of visual arts.
  • Admissible Criteria: To be eligible, the applicants must meet all the following/given criteria:
  • Applicants must be over 18 years old.
  • Applicants must be currently enrolled in a visual arts program in Australia or be a graduate of a visual arts program in Australia.
  • Applicants must have completed at least two years of full-time study.
  • Undergraduate Diploma and Certificate visual arts programs are not eligible.

Offered Benefits

The scholarship includes:

  • Monetary stipend of AU$70,000 for one academic year.
  • Single economy-class return airfare to the study destination.
  • Personal travel and medical insurance.
  • Institutional fees for up to one academic year.

Application Process

  • How to Apply: To apply for this funding programme, applicants must complete theunisa.edu.au/ samstag/apply.
  • Supporting Documents: Applicants must provide the given supporting documents:
  • Visual documentation of the applicant’s work (a combined maximum of TEN examples of an applicant’s work can be submitted).
  • Written proposal.
  • Applicants may present a maximum of ten still images, which contribute to the combined maximum of ten examples of an applicant’s work.
  • Graduation parchments or academic transcripts.
  • Birth certificates
  • Passports or other evidence of citizenship or permanent residency
  • Admission Requirements: Applicants must fulfill the following admission requirements:
  • Must be an Australian citizen, or have permanent resident status in Australia.
  • Must have successfully completed atleast two years full time, or be a graduate of a‘visual arts program’ at an institution of higher education in Australia.
  • Language Requirement: Applicants must fulfill one of the following language requirements:
  • Must be very fluent in the English language (verbally a well as written).
