The George Ira Hanson Fellowship was established in 1986 by the Estate of George Ira Hanson to assist students who are pursuing a graduate degree at the University of Regina, whose focus is on the protection and conservation of renewable resources, and the wise use and management of non-renewable resources.

University of Regina George Ira Hanson Fellowship 2025 Established in 1911, University of Regina is a non-profit public higher education institution located in the urban setting of the large town of Regina (population range of 50,000-249,999 inhabitants), Saskatchewan. Officially accredited and/or recognized by the Ministry of Advanced Education, Saskatchewan, University of Regina (U of R) is a large (uniRank enrollment range: 10,000-14,999 students) coeducational higher education institution. University of Regina (U of R) offers courses and programs leading to officially recognized higher education degrees such as pre-bachelor degrees (i.e. certificates, diplomas, associate or foundation degrees), bachelor degrees, master degrees, doctorate degrees in several areas of study. This 108 years old higher-education institution has a selective admission policy based on students' past academic record and grades. The admission rate range is 80-90% making this Canadian higher education organization a least selective institution. International applicants are eligible to apply for enrollment.

Eligibility Criteria

The award will be used to support research projects that advance University of Regina graduate students' professional and academic development. The award will be presented to a University of Regina student who meets the following criteria:

  • Must be a graduate student;
  • Participating in research involving sustainability such as resource use, management and conservation; and
  • Applications are to be submitted four to six months prior to proposed departure.

Offered Benefits

$2,000 will be given to the recipient of  the award

Funds are to support graduate students, and are to assist in professional development and/or conference-related expenses, such as registration fees, transportation and/or accommodation.
