This award was established in 1998 by the University of Regina Alumni Association to honour Dr. and Mrs. Wells. It is a tribute to their many accomplishments and contributions to the University of Regina during Dr. Wells' tenure as President of the University of Regina (1990-1997). The intention of this award is to provide an opportunity for University of Regina students to experience and to gain an understanding of their culture through international study.

University of Regina Alumni Association Donald O. Wells & Deborah Wells International Study Award for PhD Established in 1911, University of Regina is a non-profit public higher education institution located in the urban setting of the large town of Regina (population range of 50,000-249,999 inhabitants), Saskatchewan. Officially accredited and/or recognized by the Ministry of Advanced Education, Saskatchewan, University of Regina (U of R) is a large (uniRank enrollment range: 10,000-14,999 students) coeducational higher education institution. University of Regina (U of R) offers courses and programs leading to officially recognized higher education degrees such as pre-bachelor degrees (i.e. certificates, diplomas, associate or foundation degrees), bachelor degrees, master degrees, doctorate degrees in several areas of study. This 108 years old higher-education institution has a selective admission policy based on students' past academic record and grades. The admission rate range is 80-90% making this Canadian higher education organization a least selective institution. International applicants are eligible to apply for enrollment.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Fully-qualified graduate student in good standing at the time of application;
  • Successfully completed a minimum of nine credit hours prior to departure;
  • Must be enrolled in a minimum of three credit hours in the semester prior to the study term;
  • Minimum cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of 75% and no failed courses in their graduate program; and
  • Approved for a formalized Graduate International Study Tour such as the GRST 900AA-ZZ.
