To recognize and support top-achieving students in New Zealand, the University of Otago is providing the Ralph Moir Memorial Entrance Scholarship for the academic year 2024-2025.

To be eligible for the University of Otago Ralph Moir Memorial Entrance Scholarship, applicants must be either New Zealand citizens, New Zealand Residence Class Visa holders, or international students who have completed Year 12 and/or Year 13 at a New Zealand school or equivalent foundation course. They must be enrolling for the first time in full-time, first-year undergraduate study at the University of Otago.Established in 1869, the University of Otago is New Zealand’s oldest university and renowned for its vibrant campus life, high-quality education, and world-class research. Located in Dunedin, Otago offers a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate programs across various disciplines. University of Otago Ralph Moir Memorial Entrance Scholarship in New Zealand Founded in 1869, University of Otago is a non-profit public higher education institution located in the urban setting of the large town of Dunedin (population range of 50,000-249,999 inhabitants), Otago. Officially accredited and/or recognized by the Ministry for Tertiary Education, Skills and Employment, New Zealand, University of Otago is a large (uniRank enrollment range: 20,000-24,999 students) coeducational higher education institution. University of Otago offers courses and programs leading to officially recognized higher education degrees such as bachelor degrees in several areas of study. Eligibility Criteria

  • Eligible Countries New Zealand citizens, New Zealand Residence Class Visa holders, and international students who have completed Year 12 and/or Year 13 at a New Zealand school, or an equivalent foundation-level course at a New Zealand tertiary institution.
  • Acceptable Course or Subjects: The scholarship will be awarded for the Bachelor of Surveying degree at the University of Otago.
  • Admissible Criteria: To be eligible, applicants must meet the following criteria:
  • Must be intending to enrol or already enrolled for the first time in first-year (100-level papers), full-time, degree-level, undergraduate study at the University of Otago.
  • Must not have studied more than 0.4 EFTs at any university or tertiary institution at degree-level or higher, with exceptions for those who studied concurrently while in secondary school.
  • Must have completed the Financial and/or Family Circumstances sections in the scholarship application for consideration.
  • Must demonstrate academic ability, financial need, and/or life circumstances that present significant barriers to studying at university.
  • Preference given to applicants who normally reside in the Southland region.

Offered Benefits

  • Year One: NZ$5,000 towards accommodation (Residential College or University Flat) or tuition fees and stipend for local community students.
  • Year Two: NZ$10,000 towards tuition fees. Additional support may be provided at the donor’s discretion if tuition fees exceed NZ$10,000.
  • Recipients are required to write or record a message of thanks to the donors.

Application Process

All applications for Entrance Scholarships are done through eVision, the University’s student management system. Applicants are required to go through the first stages of enrolment at the University of Otago to access the Entrance Scholarship online application.
