The University of Notre Dame is happy to announce its China Scholarship Council Joint Program for the academic session 2024/2025.

The program is open to Chinese candidates seeking to pursue a doctoral degree at the University of Notre Dame. The program offers funding opportunities for degree-seeking master’s students, degree-seeking doctoral students, and joint training doctoral students. A total of 40 scholarships are available annually.

Founded in 1842, the University of Notre Dame is a private research university and one of the 25 “New Ivy” schools in the United States. It is renowned for its academic excellence and research contributions. The China Scholarship Council, a key provider of government-sponsored scholarships, collaborates with the University of Notre Dame to facilitate educational opportunities for Chinese students.

University of Notre Dame- China Scholarship Council Joint Program in USA Established in 1844, University of Notre Dame is a non-profit private higher education institution located in the suburban setting of the large town of Notre Dame (population range of 50,000-249,999 inhabitants), Indiana. Officially accredited and/or recognized by the Higher Learning Commission, University of Notre Dame (ND) is a large (uniRank enrollment range: 10,000-14,999 students) coeducational higher education institution formally affiliated with the Christian-Catholic religion. University of Notre Dame (ND) offers courses and programs leading to officially recognized higher education degrees such as bachelor degrees, master degrees, doctorate degrees in several areas of study. This 175 years old higher-education institution has a selective admission policy based on entrance examinations and students' past academic record and grades. The admission rate range is 20-30% making this US higher education organization a very selective institution. International applicants are eligible to apply for enrollment.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Eligible Countries: Chinese students are eligible to apply for this scholarship program.
  • Acceptable Course or Subjects: All disciplines at the University of Notre Dame.
  • Admissible Criteria: To be eligible, the applicants must meet all the given criteria:
  • For Doctoral Degree: Age not more than 35 years old, outstanding master’s students, fresh master’s graduates, and fresh undergraduate graduates with strong research capabilities.
  • For Master’s Degree: Age not more than 45 years old, outstanding fresh undergraduate graduates or working professionals with a bachelor’s degree.
  • For Joint Training of Doctoral Students: Outstanding full-time doctoral students from domestic universities or research institutions.

Offered Benefits

The scholarship program covers living expenses, health insurance, round-trip travel, and visa fees. Tuition is provided by the University of Notre Dame for doctoral and master’s students. Additional funding through assistantships may be available. Exceptional doctoral students receive support for the fifth year based on performance. Scholarship materials and admission notices are issued by both the China Scholarship Council and the University of Notre Dame by March 2024. Admitted candidates start procedures in May 2024, following guidelines for enrollment at the University of Notre Dame.

  • How to Apply: Applicants need to complete the online application on the China Scholarship Council platform. The application materials should be prepared and submitted following the requirements specified by the China Scholarship Council.
  • Supporting Documents: The students are required to present the following documents to the university:

  • Copy of the Highest Academic Qualification/Degree Certificate
  • Personal statement of research interest
  • Valid Resident Identity Card of the People’s Republic of China
  • Certificate of Foreign Language Proficiency
  • Admission Requirements: Applicants must have an undergradaute degree before apply for admission at the university.
  • Language Requirement: Applicants must meet the English language requirements specified by the University of Notre Dame, including options such as a bachelor’s degree in English, studying abroad in an English-speaking country, language proficiency tests (TOEFL, IELTS), or participation in advanced English training classes.
