The University of Graz, in cooperation with Land Steiermark is inviting outstanding applicants to apply for the Go Styria Scholarships for the summer semester 2026. This prestigious programme supports research stays at the University of Graz for master’s and doctoral students as well as post-doctoral researchers from South-Eastern Europe.

The scholarship program is open to outstanding master’s students, doctoral candidates, and post-doctoral researchers from South-Eastern Europe who intend to carry out a research stay at the University of Graz during the summer semester 2026. Applicants must be enrolled or affiliated with a recognized university or research institution in the region, demonstrate high academic achievement, and must not receive any other scholarship for the same mobility period.

University of Graz Go Styria Scholarships in Austria Founded in 1585, Karl-Franzens-Universität Graz (University of Graz) is a non-profit public higher education institution located in the urban setting of the small city of Graz (population range of 250,000-499,999 inhabitants), Styria. Officially accredited and/or recognized by the Bundesministerium für Bildung, Wissenschaft and Forschung, Österreich (Federal Ministry of Education, Science and Research, Austria), Karl-Franzens-Universität Graz (KFUG) is a large (uniRank enrollment range: 25,000-29,999 students) coeducational higher education institution. Karl-Franzens-Universität Graz (KFUG) offers courses and programs leading to officially recognized higher education degrees such as bachelor degrees, master degrees, doctorate degrees in several areas of study. International students are welcome to apply for enrollment.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Eligible Countries: South-Eastern European countries

  • Acceptable Course or Subjects: The scholarship will be awarded for research purposes in any subject offered by the University of Graz

  • Admissible Criteria:

    • Master’s and doctoral students must be enrolled at a university in South-Eastern Europe and plan to carry out research at the University of Graz.

    • Post-doctoral applicants must be affiliated with a university or research institution in South-Eastern Europe.

    • High academic performance is essential.

    • Applicants must not receive any other scholarship for the same period at the University of Graz.

    • Duration of stay must be between February 1 and August 31, 2026, and a minimum of 1 month and maximum of 4 months.

Offered Benefits

  • Master’s/Doctoral Students: €900 per month + exemption from tuition fees

  • Post-docs: €1200 per month

  • Application Process Includes:

    • Step 1: Find a suitable field of research On this website you will find information about all the institutes and faculties at the University of Graz – before you apply, please find out if there is a suitable field of research for you.Step 2: Request invitation letter

      Please contact the relevant institute in advance to find out whether there is a professor at the University of Graz who is willing to accept you as a post-doc. If you need help with finding a suitable supervisor, please contact  staffmobility(at)uni-graz.at.

      Please include the following information in your e-mail to the potential supervisor:

      • Details of the scholarship programme you intend to apply for
      • Curriculum vitae
      • Research proposal (max. 3 pages)

      Step 3: Research plan & written invitation

      In consultation with your supervisor you must now draft a research plan; this is also needed for the scholarship application. Your supervisor provides the invitation letter for your application, written on official University of Graz headed paper, signed by the supervisor.

      Step 4: Submit your application documents

      Check that you have all the necessary application documents ( see checklist) and submit your completed application by email as a pdf document to  staffmobility(at)uni-graz.at
