The University of Gottingen DAAD Scholarship promotes the training of specialists from development and newly industrialised countries.

Well-trained local experts, who are networked with international partners, play an important part in the sustainable development of their countries. They are the best guarantee for a better future with less poverty, more education and health for all.

The scholarships offer foreign graduates from development and newly industrialised countries from all disciplines and with at least two years’ professional experience the chance to take a postgraduate or Master’s degree at a state or state-recognised German university, and in exceptional cases to take a doctoral degree, and to obtain a university qualification (Master’s/PhD) in Germany.

University of Gottingen 2025 DAAD EPOS Scholarship for International Students for Master Founded in 1734, Georg-August-Universität Göttingen (University of Göttingen) is a non-profit public higher education institution located in the urban setting of the large town of Göttingen (population range of 50,000-249,999 inhabitants), Lower Saxony. Officially accredited and/or recognized by the Niedersächsisches Ministerium für Wissenschaft und Kultur (Ministry for Science and Culture of Lower Saxony), Georg-August-Universität Göttingen is a large (uniRank enrollment range: 20,000-24,999 students) coeducational higher education institution. Georg-August-Universität Göttingen offers courses and programs leading to officially recognized higher education degrees such as bachelor degrees, master degrees, doctorate degrees in several areas of study. Eligibility Criteria

In order to be eligible for the EPOS scholarship, please note the following eligibility criteria:

  • You need to fulfill all the general programme requirements for the MSc Development Economics as outlined  here.
  • Additionally, you need to fulfill all the eligibility criteria required by the DAAD as outlined  on the corresponding DAAD website.

Offered Benefits

  • Depending on academic level, monthly payments of 934 euros for graduates or 1,300 euros for doctoral candidates
  • Payments towards health, accident and personal liability insurance cover
  • Travel allowance, unless these expenses are covered by the home country or another source of funding

Under certain circumstances, scholarship holders may receive the following additional benefits:

  • Monthly rent subsidy
  • Monthly allowance for accompanying members of family

Application Process

  • Click on the button below to navigate to the scholarship webpage at Gottingen.
  • If you wish to pursue a DAAD EPOS scholarship within the MSc Development Economics you only have to apply once for both – the study programme and funding – directly at our university.
  • Applications are possible from October 1 through November 15 of each year for the subsequent winter term (e.g. application in October-November 2024 and programme start in October 2025).
  • You complete the online application form for the Master’s programme in Development Economics during the application period and send it by clicking on the send button at the end of the form.
  • You will then receive an email with a link to a document upload portal. The email also contains your login data (user name and password) for the upload portal.
  • Go to the upload portal, enter your username and password from the email and follow the steps in the upload portal to upload your documents.
  • Submit your documents within the deadline by clicking on the ‘Binding submission’ button.
  • Once the selection process is complete, shortlisted candidates will be invited to a virtual interview process (interviews will be about 15 minutes long).
  • After this, the final selection for the scholarship and the admission to the Master’s programme in Development Economics will take place.
  • Please note that as your application will be reviewed by our university and the DAAD, any notifications on these will arrive between January and March.
