Applications are solicited from eligible candidates for fully funded full-time PhD scholarships affiliated with the College of Arts, Social Sciences, and Celtic Studies at the University of Galway. The position commences on May 1, 2024, and extends for a duration of four years, contingent upon satisfactory progress.

The GAELFAM project investigates the linguistic experiences of families residing in the Irish Gaeltacht who use a language other than or in addition to Irish or English at home. The aim is to gain insights into the linguistic dynamics within these families, particularly focusing on adolescents.   • Hold an honors BA with a minimum degree result of a high 2.1 or international equivalent in applied linguistics, relevant language, or other social science field.
  • Demonstrate fluency in Irish (C1 or C2) is desirable.
  • Possess excellent written communication skills in both Irish and English.
  • Have experience working with adolescents.
  • Fluency in a language other than Irish or English is preferred.
  • Prior experience in conducting ethnographic research is advantageous.
