University of Edinburgh Alice Brown PhD International Scholarships in UK Established in 1583, The University of Edinburgh is a non-profit public higher education institution located in the urban setting of the small city of Edinburgh (population range of 250,000-499,999 inhabitants), Scotland. Eligibility Criteria

  • Eligible Countries: UK, European Economic Area, or Switzerland.
  • Acceptable Course or Subjects: PhD degree coursework in one of the following broad subject areas: African Studies, International Development, International Relations, Politics, Science, Technology and Innovation Studies, Social Anthropology, Social Policy, Social Work, Sociology, South Asian Studies, and Sustainable Development
  • Admissible Criteria: To be eligible, applicants must have to meet the following eligibility criteria:
  • A first-class honours degree (or equivalent) in a subject relevant to the studentship OR a taught MSc degree at distinction level in a subject relevant to the studentship – these qualifications can be either achieved or anticipated. As comprehensive research training is integrated with this PhD programme, there will be no automatic preference given to those holding MSc qualifications covering research training.

Offered Benefits

The scholarship programme covers full payment of PhD tuition fees and provides an annual stipend of £10,000 each year.

Application Process

  • How to Apply: To be considered for the scholarships, applicants first have to take admission in a PhD degree programme at the university. The online scholarship application form is located in EUCLID and can be accessed via MyEd, their web-based information portal at https://www.myed.ed.ac.uk
  • Supporting Documents: Students must submit all degree transcripts and certificates (and certified translations if applicable), a short research proposal (max two pages), a full CV and cover letter describing your background, suitability for the PhD, and research interests (max two pages) and two references.
  • Admission Requirements: For taking admission, students must have to check the entry requirements of their chosen program.
  • Language Requirement: If your education has not been conducted in the English language, you will be expected to demonstrate evidence of an adequate level of English proficiency. For more information, go through the English language requirements
