The University of Bonn – Germany is providing funding for students from countries in Africa, Latin America and Asia in order to promote scientific exchange with partners, particularly in regions that have been relatively marginalized in terms of scientific production and to promote international cooperation in the priority regions indicated in the partnership strategy. The funding is for a period of at least 3 and not more than 12 months.

University of Bonn 2023 Argelander Scholarships for African Students for Master Founded in 1818, Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn (University of Bonn) is a non-profit public higher education institution located in the urban setting of the small city of Bonn (population range of 250,000-499,999 inhabitants), North Rhine-Westphalia. Officially accredited and/or recognized by the Ministerium für Kultur und Wissenschaft des Landes Nordrhein-Westfalen (Ministry of Culture and Science of North Rhine-Westphalia), Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn (UNIBONN) is a very large (uniRank enrollment range: 35,000-39,999 students) coeducational higher education institution. Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn (UNIBONN) offers courses and programs leading to officially recognized higher education degrees in several areas of study. Eligibility Criteria

  • Applicants must be international doctoral candidates pursuing a doctoral degree at a university or a research institute in Africa, Latin America or Asia.
  • Doctoral candidates who are already pursuing their Ph.D. at the University of Bonn are not eligible for funding. Recipients of funding should finish their doctorates at their home university (to avoid brain drain).

Offered Benefits

  • A travel allowance (depending on country of origin)
  • A scholarship of € 1,500 per month (additional funds for accompanying family members: up to € 300 for a spouse and € 250 per child)
  • A research expense allowance of up to € 300 per month that can be submitted to the International Office after the scholarship has been awarded. Information on applying for the allowance will be provided with your scholarship award.
