These Scholarships were established in 2009 following the establishment of the Universitas 21 Joint PhD Programme.

The intention of the scholarships is to encourage and support academically excellent students who are embarking on joint degrees with The University of Auckland and one of its U21 partners

University of Auckland Universitas 21 Joint PhD Programme Scholarships Founded in 1883, University of Auckland is a non-profit public higher education institution located in the urban setting of the large city of Auckland (population range of 1,000,000-5,000,000 inhabitants). Officially accredited and/or recognized by the Ministry for Tertiary Education, Skills and Employment, New Zealand, University of Auckland is a very large (uniRank enrollment range: 40,000-44,999 students) coeducational higher education institution. University of Auckland offers courses and programs leading to officially recognized higher education degrees such as bachelor degrees in several areas of study. International students are welcome to apply for enrollment.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Selection will be based on academic merit (measured by the grade point average assessed over the applicant's two most recent years of equivalent full-time study), quality of research proposal and endorsement by the proposed supervisors and host academic units.
  • As a guideline, the minimum GPA or GPE required for a successful application in recent years has been 7.000.
  • The Scholarships shall be available to students enrolled full-time in a PhD where the University of Auckland is the lead university in a joint PhD programme with one of its U21 partners. The students must have paid the fees or have arranged to pay the fees, for the Degree of Doctor of Philosophy.

Offered Benefits

Up to $25,000 pa (stipend) plus compulsory fees and one return airfare
