Awards, scholarships and prizes, which are awarded to outstanding applicants, are funded by a variety of sources including the Government of Canada, Government of Alberta, and the generosity of the university's many donors. Some awards are exclusive to specific programs.

Founded in 1908, University of Alberta is a non-profit public higher education institution located in the urban setting of the medium-sized city of Edmonton (population range of 500,000-1,000,000 inhabitants), Alberta. Eligibility Criteria
Departments must submit completed international applications - including all documentation - to the FGSR by the following dates:
- July 1 for September admission
- November 1 for January admission
- March 1 for May admission
- May 1 for July admission
Offered Benefits
Awards and scholarships, awarded to outstanding applicants, are funded by a variety of sources including the Government of Canada and the Government of Alberta:
Admission grants (automatic consideration) for undergraduates
International Student Scholarships:
Value/up to $9,000; Payable over four years.
University of Alberta Gold Standard Scholarship:
Value/up to $6000.
University of Alberta PhD Employment Scholarship:
Value/$5000 per year.
University of Alberta Entrance Scholarship for Masters:
Stipend/ $17,500 (international students will receive an additional $10,000 to help cover fees).
Alberta Graduate Excellence Scholarship (AGES):
The minimum award is $11,000 and the maximum is $15,000.
Application Process
Application deadlines for international students are set by the department delivering the program. Deadlines may be as early as 12 months before the program begins.
Applicants should contact the department well in advance because:
- department deadlines are often tied to funding and award consideration, and
- international applicants generally need plenty of time (up to six months in some cases) to make arrangements to enter Canada (where applicable).
