The Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) of India, in partnership with UNESCO-TWAS are pleased to announce the TWAS-CSIR Postgraduate Fellowship Programme for talented and motivated candidates.

To qualify for the study programme, applicants must be nationals of developing countries (excluding India) and under 35 years of age as of 31 December 2025.TWAS, the World Academy of Sciences, is an international organization that promotes scientific excellence and capacity building in developing countries. Established in 1983, TWAS aims to foster scientific research and collaboration among scientists from the Global South, thereby enhancing their contributions to sustainable development. The Academy provides various programs, including research grants, fellowships, and awards, to support scientists and researchers in their endeavors.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Eligible Countries: Applicants must be nationals of a developing country, excluding India.
  • Acceptable Course or Subjects: The scholarship is available for fields in science and technology, including:
    1. Agricultural Sciences
    2. Structural, Cell, and Molecular Biology
    3. Biological Systems and Organisms
    4. Medical and Health Sciences (including Neurosciences)
    5. Chemical Sciences
    6. Engineering Sciences
    7. Astronomy, Space, and Earth Sciences
    8. Mathematical Sciences
    9. Physics
  • Admissible Criteria:
    • Maximum age of 35 years as of 31 December of the application year.
    • Hold a Master’s degree in science and technology.
    • Must not hold residency in India or any developed country.
    • Employed in the home country with a research assignment.
    • For SANDWICH Fellowships, must be registered PhD students in their home country with a “Registration and No Objection Certificate” from their university.
    • For FULL-TIME Fellowships, must register at an Indian university within the first year.
    • Accepted at a CSIR laboratory/institute with an official acceptance letter.
    • Demonstrate proficiency in English if it is not the medium of prior education.
    • Commit to returning to their home country after completing the fellowship.
    • Be financially responsible for accompanying family members.

Application Process

  • Applications must be submitted through the TWAS online portal once the call opens.
  • Obtain a preliminary acceptance letter from a CSIR laboratory/institution early, as only acceptance letters dated the same year as the application are valid.
  • Submit the acceptance letter alongside the application by the deadline.
  • Applicants registered for a PhD in their home country must provide a “Registration and No Objection Certificate.”
  • Applications can only be made to one TWAS programme per calendar year.
