In 2017, Timothy Loh LLP established a scholarship award, named the Timothy Loh Prize, for Juris Doctor students at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, which grants a HK$15,000 bursary to one recipient per academic year.

In line with the Global Scholars Program, which offers a paid 4-week internship in Hong Kong to promising law students from any common law jurisdiction, the Timothy Loh Prize is the second initiative of the firm’s dedication to supporting young talent in pursuing legal careers specializing in financial services.

The Timothy Loh Prize Founded in 1963, The Chinese University of Hong Kong is a non-profit public higher education institution located in the suburban setting of the metropolis of Hong Kong (population range of over 5,000,000 inhabitants). Officially accredited and/or recognized by the Education Bureau, Hong Kong SAR, The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) is a large (uniRank enrollment range: 10,000-14,999 students) coeducational higher education institution. The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) offers courses and programs leading to officially recognized higher education degrees such as bachelor degrees, master degrees, doctorate degrees in several areas of study. This 56 years old higher-education institution has a selective admission policy based on entrance examinations and students' past academic record and grades. International students are welcome to apply for enrollment.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants for the scholarship must be Year 1 full-time or Year 2 part-time students who are enrolled in the Juris Doctor Programme of the Chinese University of Hong Kong. They must also demonstrate outstanding academic merit in their course of studies and during the interview with the firm, while possessing a keen interest in finance or other areas of business as shown in their prior studies, work experience or any applicable professional qualifications.

Application Process

The Prize will be awarded to a Year 1 full-time student or a Year 2 part-time student who enrolled in the Juris Doctor (JD) Programme of the University. Selection of the Prize recipient will be based on the following criteria: i) Outstanding academic merit as shown in the JD Programme. ii) Performance at the interview with the Donor. iii) Other qualities, including demonstrating an interest in finance or other areas of business as shown in prior studies, work experience or other professional qualifications.
