The Ministry of Education Singapore Education Merit Scholarship, 2023 for Bachelor Established in 1991, National Institute of Education is a public higher education institution located in the large city of Phnom Penh (population range of 1,000,000-5,000,000 inhabitants). Officially accredited and/or recognized by the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports, Cambodia, National Institute of Education (NIE) is a coeducational higher education institution. National Institute of Education (NIE) offers courses and programs leading to officially recognized higher education degrees in several areas of study. Eligibility Criteria

  • Eligible Countries: Singapore
  • Acceptable Course or Subjects: The scholarship will be awarded for undergraduate studies in the following courses/disciplines at any reputable overseas universities, local autonomous universities, or NTU-NIE:
  • Languages
  • Humanities
  • Art and Music
  • Physical Education and Sports Science
  • Social Sciences
  • Sciences
  • Mathematics
  • Admissible Criteria: To be eligible, the applicants must meet all the following criteria:
  • Be a Singapore Citizen or Singapore Permanent Resident who is willing to take up Singapore Citizenship
  • Good character, strong leadership qualities, and a keen passion for education
  • Strong Co-Curricular Activities (CCA) records
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • GCE ‘A’ Levels, International Baccalaureate (IB), Polytechnic Diploma, NUS High Diploma or equivalent
  • Scholars who are not pursuing the Bachelor of Arts/Science (Education) course at the National Institute of Education (NIE) will be required to go through the Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) course at NIE upon completion of their undergraduate studies.

EMS scholars will be given opportunities to hold top professional positions in the Education Service depending on their performance. All benefits are:

  • Sponsorship of tuition fees and other approved charges
  • Maintenance and pre-studies allowance
  • Return economy airfare (for overseas studies only)
  • Developmental programs during undergraduate studies (e.g. school attachment and HQ internship)
  • Opportunities to participate in overseas school attachment
  • Sponsorship for approved student exchange programs, summer programs, and CCAs
  • Possibility of sponsorship of Master’s degree (if requirements are met)
  • Be enrolled in the Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) teacher preparation program at the National Institute of Education (NIE) as a salaried employee after completing the first degree.

Application Process

  • How to Apply: Applicants who are interested in a PSC or MOE Teaching Scholarship should submit their applications online via the Education Merit Scholarship (EMS).
  • Supporting Documents: Applicants must submit the following documents in the application:
  • Detailed letter describing the field you intend to study, specifying the university they wish to attend
  • Curriculum Vitae
  • Copies of letters exchanged with Singapore universities or Singapore supervisors (in the case of a research project)
  • Official original (or notarized copy) of academic records of all relevant studies and test scores, diplomas attesting the completion of an academic degree, including a transcript of student records
  • At least two (2) letters of recommendation from lecturers/professors who taught the candidate
  • Three (3) photographs
  • Admission Requirements: Entry requirements vary. Applicants apply to local and overseas universities on their own.
  • Language Requirement: Applicants will need to present the English language studies at a sufficient level from an academic institute.
