The EngD Digital Entertainment gives you access to top companies in games, VFX and animation. After a year of training, you will join the research team of one of our cutting-edge companies for three years. You will not only learn a great deal about the industry but also emerge with a CV that no conventional research student can match.

You will be part of the largest, most experienced doctoral training centre in the sector. You will have all the benefits of connecting with our 50 current students, our two Universities and our growing network of over 40 companies. You will work closely with and in some of the most exciting high-tech companies in the world, not for a token short-term placement but fully-embedded.

You will receive one of the most generous, tax-free stipends in the UK. Your University fees will be paid for you. You will have access to generous funds for travel, attendance at events and skills development tailored to you. You will have input into the centre via student representatives on our Project Board and benefit from company input to our Professional Advisory Board.

We are the only national centre in our sector offering the very special Engineering Doctorate. The practical experience that goes with the EngD, the chance to network with all our companies, the support of your cohort and your own demonstrated ability; these all add up to great career prospects.

And you will become part of the growing CDE family, one of the friendliest groups around!

Eligibility Criteria

We normally require a student to have a first or upper second class honours degree or equivalent qualifications in a relevant subject, typically computer science, maths or physics. All applications are assessed on both your research potential and academic excellence.

Unfortunately, due to United Kingdom Border Agency (UKBA) regulations, we are only allowed to admit citizens of the UK/European Union or applicants who have Indefinite Leave to Remain in the UK. You might be interested in applying for Bath's MSc Digital Entertainment.

We are able to accept a limited number of EU applicants each year. Please contact us to talk about a potential application.

Offered Benefits

We provide an annual tax-free stipend of at least £16,557 (typically this is topped-up by the partner company) tuition fees of approximately £7,500 and generous funding for conferences and student-led events.
