The Carena Institute of Sustainable Archaeologies is pleased to announce the opening of applications for its Postgraduate Scholarships for the 2025–2026 academic year. These scholarships are open to new students enrolling in the MA Archaeology and Heritage program, either full-time or part-time.

To be considered for the scholarship, applicants must be newly enrolled in the MA Archaeology and Heritage program, either full-time or part-time.

The Carena Institute of Sustainable Archaeologies is a research-led institute dedicated to advancing socially responsible and sustainable approaches to archaeology and heritage. It focuses on community-centered practices, critical engagement with historical data and archives, and the examination of archaeology’s role in conflict and post-conflict contexts.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Eligible Countries: All nationalities

  • Acceptable Course or Subjects: The scholarship is awarded for the MA Archaeology and Heritage course

  • Admissible Criteria: To be eligible, applicants must:

    • Be newly enrolled in the MA Archaeology and Heritage program.

    • Submit a scholarship statement (max. 500 words) outlining:

      • How they intend to use their MA studies.

      • A proposed dissertation topic (if known).

      • How their work aligns with the Institute’s themes (preferred).

    • Provide two letters of reference.

    • Demonstrate academic and/or professional merit.

Offered Benefits

  • Award Amount: £5,000

  • Purpose: To be used toward tuition fees only.

  • Number of Awards: Three scholarships available.

Application Process

To apply for this funding programme, applicants must apply through the online application form  at the university.

Applicants must submit:

  • A completed scholarship statement (max. 500 words).

  • Two reference letters.

  • Ensure all materials are submitted by 1 September 2025 at 2pm (BST).
