SWUFE “The Belt and Road” Scholarship in China for International Students Founded in 1952, Southwestern University of Finance and Economics is a non-profit public higher education institution located in the urban setting of the metropolis of Chengdu (population range of over 5,000,000 inhabitants), Sichuan. Officially accredited and/or recognized by the Ministry of Education of The People's Republic of China, Southwestern University of Finance and Economics (SWUFE) is a large (uniRank enrollment range: 20,000-24,999 students) coeducational higher education institution. Southwestern University of Finance and Economics (SWUFE) offers courses and programs leading to officially recognized higher education degrees such as bachelor degrees in several areas of study. Eligibility Criteria

  • Eligible Countries: All nationalities.
  • Acceptable Course or Subjects: The scholarship will be awarded for bachelor, master, and PhD degrees in a range of subject areas as mentioned in the SWUFE 2023 Major List.
  • Admissible Criteria: To be eligible, the applicants must meet all the following criteria:
  • Applicants must be non-Chinese citizens with a valid passport in accordance with the Nationality Law of The People’s Republic of China, and meet the requirements set by Document No. 12 (2020) of the Ministry of Education of The PRC and other relevant regulations; be in good health and get good grades.
  • Applicants must abide by the laws and regulations of the Chinese government and local government as well as the regulations of SWUFE.
  • Applicant’s educational background should meet one of the conditions below:
  • (a) High school students (applying for a bachelor’s degree program), undergraduates (applying for a master’s degree program) or postgraduates (applying for a doctoral degree program) who will graduate in the current year must obtain a nationally recognized corresponding diploma before enrolling in the year of admission, otherwise the admission qualification will be invalid.
  • (b) Applicants have had a nationally recognized high school diploma (applying for a bachelor’s degree program), bachelor’s degree (applying for a master’s degree program) or master’s degree (applying for a doctoral degree program).
  • Age limit for applicants: Applicants should meet the age limit by September 1st, 2023.
  • (1) Applying for bachelor’s degree program: 18-30 years old
  • (2) Applying for master’s degree program: 18-35 years old
  • (3) Applying for doctoral degree program: 18-40 years old
  • Applicants are not offered with any other Chinese scholarships for the program study at SWUFE.

  • Living allowance: CNY1500/month for bachelor students; CNY2000/month for master students; CNY2500/month for PhD students.

Application Process

  • How to Apply: Applicants shall apply for the scholarship at SWUFE directly and independently.
  • (1)Register and log in application website http://admission.swufe.edu.cn/member/login.do.
  • (2)Complete and upload all required documents at the online application website.
  • Supporting Documents: Applicants should upload documents as required:
  • The passport photo was taken within 6 months;
  • Notarized highest educational degree or diploma certificate;
  • Complete the highest educational transcript;
  • Recommendation letters;
  • A Study Plan or Research Proposal: A minimum of 200 words for bachelor’s program applicants, and 800 words for master’s and doctoral program applicants.
  • Valid language certificate;
  • The first page of the applicant’s personal passport;
  • Physical Examination Record for Foreigner – Form.
  • Admission Requirements: Visit http://swufe.17gz.org, fill in the application form, upload relevant documents as required, pay the application fee online and submit the application.
  • Language Requirement: Applicants are required the following language requirements:
  • (1) Chinese-taught program
  • Applicants provide proof of studying in a 2-year or above degree program in which the teaching language is Chinese, and do not need to provide a language certificate.
  • Applicants who passed HSK Level 4 (applying for a bachelor’s degree program) or HSK Level 5 (applying for a master’s or doctoral degree program) with each subject scored over 60 points.
  • (2) English-taught program
  • Applicants whose native language is English, or who can provide proof of studying in a 2-year or above degree program in which the teaching language is English, do not need to provide a language certificate.
  • Applicants whose native language is not English are required to provide a score report of an English language test (IELTS 6.5 or TOEFL 95 and above).
