The Fulbright Germany program is pleased to announce the availability of the Study/Research Award in Germany for the talented students. This prestigious scholarship aims to facilitate access to science and research opportunities at German universities or relevant non-university institutions, fostering academic and cultural exchange between the United States and Germany.

The studentship is open for highly motivated US candidates who need financial support to complete a PhD degree program for the academic session 2024/2025.The German-American Fulbright Commission (Fulbright Germany) facilitates academic exchange between the United States and Germany. Fulbright Germany awards up to 700 scholarships yearly for study, research, teaching, and continuing education in the US and Germany, thus actively promoting transatlantic dialogue.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Eligible Countries: United States
  • Acceptable Course or Subjects: Any subject offered by German universities
  • Admissible Criteria: Applicants must be US citizens enrolled in a PhD program at a US university, possess a consistent and focused plan for their study or research project directly related to their doctoral thesis, and demonstrate proficiency in the German language. Additionally, applicants must have a meaningful letter of invitation from the intended German host institution and show willingness to engage in academic and cultural exchange between Germany and the US.

Offered Benefits

The Study/Research Award in Germany offers full maintenance grants, including a stipend of Euro 1,200 per month, health insurance, one-time international travel allowance, and additional benefits such as a semester incidental allowance and monthly family allowance for accompanied grantees. Travel-only grants are also available for candidates funded through non-Fulbright resources.

Application Process

Interested candidates can apply online through Tuesday, October 8, 2024, at 5 pm Eastern Time. Applications must be prepared in advance, with preliminary guidance available through the Institute of International Education (IIE). Applicants are encouraged to consult their university’s Fulbright Program Advisor for further guidance.
