University of Tasmania Scholarships for South Asian Students Founded in 1890, University of Tasmania is a non-profit public higher education institution located in the urban setting of the large town of Hobart (population range of 50,000-249,999 inhabitants), Tasmania. This institution has also branch campuses in the following location(s): Launceston, Burnie. Officially accredited and/or recognized by the Department of Education and Training, Australia, University of Tasmania (UTAS) is a very large (uniRank enrollment range: 30,000-34,999 students) coeducational higher education institution. University of Tasmania (UTAS) offers courses and programs leading to officially recognized higher education degrees such as pre-bachelor degrees (i.e. certificates, diplomas, associate or foundation degrees), bachelor degrees, master degrees, doctorate degrees in several areas of study. This 129 years old higher-education institution has a selective admission policy based on entrance examinations and students' past academic record and grades. The admission rate range is 70-80% making this Australian higher education organization a somewhat selective institution. International students are welcome to apply for enrollment.

Eligibility Criteria

To receive the scholarship, you must be a citizen of a South Asian country and be commencing full fee-paying study of an eligible course at the University for the first time.
Eligible courses include:

  • All undergraduate or Honours coursework programs (excluding Bachelor of Nursing Hobart and Launceston; and fully online-only programs); and
  • All postgraduate coursework programs (excluding Master of Laboratory Medicine and fully online programs).


International students on a Student Visa (subclass 500) must continue to satisfy the criteria for the grant of a visa and must maintain satisfactory attendance in your course and course progress for each study period as required by the University of Tasmania.

15% reduction in registered tuition fees for the duration of the course.

Application Process

Students are assessed automatically upon submission of their International Student Application so there is no need to apply separately. Offer letters will notify applicants if they have been awarded the scholarship.
