SIT Scholarships for Foreign Graduate Students in Japan for PhD Established in 1949, Shibaura Institute of Technology is a for-profit private higher education institution located in the urban setting of the metropolis of Tokyo (population range of over 5,000,000 inhabitants). Eligibility Criteria

  • Acceptable Course or Subjects: The scholarship will be awarded in any subject offered by SIT.
  • Admissible Criteria: To be eligible for the scholarship, applicants must meet the following criteria:
    • Overseas applicants (both graduates and current students) applying to enroll in the Doctor’s program at SIT.
    • Outstanding academic records.
    • Applicants must be willing to come to Japan.

Offered Benefits

SIT (Shibaura Institute of Technology) will cover all the following study expenses:

    • Scholarship Duration: 1 year (maximum 3 years with an extension deliberation every academic year).
    • Full tuition fees, fees for matriculation, and facilities maintenance will be waived.
    • A monthly allowance of 142,000 JPY will be provided.
    • No repayment obligation for the scholarship after completing the Doctor’s program.
    • The scholarship may be canceled under certain conditions, as outlined in the scholarship announcement.

Application Process

  • How to Apply: In order to apply for this program, applicants must take admission in a PhD degree program at the university. Scholarship application procedures and required forms will be announced separately to applicants of the Doctor’s Program exam on Wednesday, December 6.
  • Supporting Documents: Submit the required application documents (documents of research achievements for the scholarship, recommendation documents from a professor) by the deadline through the designated method (web or email submission).

  • Reasons why you wish to be supervised by the faculty member (Please provide specifics.)
  • CV (Education background, work experience etc. / Any format is acceptable. / Please provide details
    so that there are no blank periods.)
  • Summary of previous research and Research Achievement (Any format is acceptable.)
  • Research Plan (Any format is acceptable.)
  • Certificate (or Prospect) of Graduation (Original language ver. and Japanese or English ver.)
  • Transcript Certificate(Original language ver. and Japanese or English ver.)
  • English test score (TOEIC L&R, TOEIC S&W, TOEFL iBT, GTEC (for Business) or IELTS Academic)
  • Admission Requirements: Before taking admission, applicants must meet all the entry requirements of the university.
  • Language Requirement: SIT requires all applicants for both the Doctor’s course and Master’s course to provide a copy of a valid language test score report. You must acquire this English test score in advance, before applying.
    Scores of TOEIC L&R, TOEIC S&W, TOEFL iBT, GTEC (for Business) or IELTS Academic are acceptable.
