The Ritsumeikan Academy is one of the private comprehensive educational institutions in Japan with rich history and tradition, and we celebrated the 130th anniversary of the founding of the Ritsumeikan private school and the 100th year of the establishment of the Academy in 2000. The Academy has now become a comprehensive educational institution with two universities, four high schools, four junior high schools and one primary school.

This scholarship is awarded to students who achieved great results in the entrance examination conducted in the examination format designated by each graduate school.
Recipients of the scholarship are mainly chosen at the time of announcement of examination results. However, there is a possibility that additional recipients are selected due to refusal of original recipients.

SHINGAKU-SHOREI Scholarship - Ritsumeikan University Founded in 1899, Ritsumeikan University is a private higher education institution located in the urban setting of the large city of Kyoto (population range of 1,000,000-5,000,000 inhabitants). Officially accredited and/or recognized by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, Japan, Ritsumeikan University is a coeducational higher education institution. Ritsumeikan University offers courses and programs leading to officially recognized higher education degrees such as bachelor degrees in several areas of study. The admission rate range is 10-20% making this Japanese higher education organization a most selective institution. International students are welcome to apply for enrollment.

Eligibility Criteria

Recipients of this scholarship are chosen from among the candidates who successfully passed the entrance examination in the applicable examination format. (Scholarship application procedures are not required.)

To apply for master's programs, master's-doctoral programs and professional graduate degree programs, the applicant must be a graduate from a university as defined in Article 83 of the School Education Law or an institution deemed acceptable by the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology or be recognized as having the academic ability equal to or higher than that of a graduate from such an institution. The applicant must fulfill these requirements by the time of enrollment.

To apply for doctoral programs (1st year admissions) and master's-doctoral programs ( 3rd year transfer admissions), applicants must possess a master's degree or degree as prescribed by the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology in Article 104, Paragraph 1 of the School Education Law or other conditions deemed acceptable by the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology or be recognized as having the academic ability equal to or higher than that of a holder of such a degree. The applicant must fulfill these requirements by the time of enrollment.
