Semmes Distinguished Scholars in Science Scholarships, USA for Bachelor Founded in 1869, Trinity University is a non-profit private higher education institution located in the urban setting of the large city of San Antonio (population range of 1,000,000-5,000,000 inhabitants), Texas. Officially accredited and/or recognized by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges, Trinity University (TU) is a small (uniRank enrollment range: 2,000-2,999 students) coeducational higher education institution formally affiliated with the Christian-Presbyterian religion. Trinity University (TU) offers courses and programs leading to officially recognized higher education degrees such as bachelor degrees, master degrees, doctorate degrees in several areas of study. This 150 years old higher-education institution has a selective admission policy based on entrance examinations and students' past academic record and grades. The admission rate range is 40-50% making this US higher education organization a averagely selective institution. International students are welcome to apply for enrollment.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Eligible Countries: All nationalities
  • Acceptable Course or Subjects: The scholarship will be awarded to students intending to major in one of the following STEM fields: biology, biochemistry, biochemistry and molecular biology, chemistry, computer science, engineering science, geosciences, mathematics, neuroscience, physics and astronomy, or psychology.
  • Admissible Criteria: To be eligible, applicants must:
    • Be first-year undergraduate students.
    • Demonstrate strong academic achievement, supported by an official high school transcript and a recalculated core GPA on an unweighted 4.0 scale.
    • Submit optional standardized test scores (ACT or SAT); Trinity considers the highest scores from each test and subtest submitted.
    • Not be transfer, continuing, or graduate students.

Offered Benefits

  • Full tuition coverage for up to 8 semesters, renewable annually as long as recipients:
    • Maintain satisfactory academic progress with a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA.
    • Remain enrolled full-time each semester.
  • A $5,000 stipend, which can be used for research support, professional travel, and materials.

Important Details

  • Semmes Scholars are selected through Trinity’s admissions process, without consideration of income.
  • Scholarship renewal requires recipients to remain in good academic standing.
  • Recipients are ineligible for other institutional grants or scholarships and must use the award exclusively for fall and spring tuition (summer study is not covered).
  • This scholarship does not require repayment.

Application Process

  1. Apply to Trinity University by Early Decision I (ED) or Early Action (EA) for undergraduate admission.
    • Deadline: November 1
  2. Submit the Semmes Scholars Application with an expanded resume in addition to the general Trinity application.
    • Deadline: November 6
  3. Attend a finalist interview and event on campus if selected, on February 1, 2025.
    • Final Deadline: February 3, 2025
