Semmelweis University is pleased to announce the Researchers’ Scholarship Program (EKÖP) 2025/2026, designed to support outstanding students, doctoral candidates, and young researchers across various academic disciplines.
The study program is open to applicants must be under 45 years of age and demonstrate outstanding academic, professional, or scientific achievements. Eligible categories include bachelor’s, master’s, PhD students, PhD candidates, and young researchers affiliated with Semmelweis University.

Established in 1769, Semmelweis Egyetem (Semmelweis University) is a non-profit public higher education institution located in the urban setting of the large city of Budapest (population range of 1,000,000-5,000,000 inhabitants). Officially accredited and/or recognized by the Magyar Felsooktatási Akkreditációs Bizottság (Hungarian Accreditation Committee), Semmelweis Egyetem is a large (uniRank enrollment range: 10,000-14,999 students) coeducational higher education institution. Semmelweis Egyetem offers courses and programs leading to officially recognized higher education degrees such as bachelor degrees, master degrees, doctorate degrees in several areas of study. The scholarship will be awarded in any subject offered by Semmelweis University under eligible bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral programs listed in Annex 1.
Admissible Criteria: To be eligible, the applicants must meet the following criteria based on the category:
Bachelor’s Degree (BA) Category
Active student status in a listed BA program
One certified completed semester before the scholarship begins
Weighted average of at least 4.00 from the last completed semester
Master’s/Undivided Training Degree
Active student status in a listed MA or undivided training program
One certified completed semester before the scholarship begins
Weighted average of at least 4.00
At least 1 semester of TDK (Scientific Students’ Associations) work (for undivided training)
PhD Training Category
PhD Candidate Category
Completed or about to complete doctoral studies (absolutorium), but not yet awarded the degree
Has or will have an employment relationship with Semmelweis University during the grant period
Minimum one international conference presentation and University PhD Scientific Days participation
At least one publication/patent
Must not have received a previous EKÖP/ÚNKP doctoral scholarship
Young Teacher and Researcher Category
Active employment at Semmelweis University for teaching/research
Completed PhD within 5 years or holds an absolutorium
Outstanding international research activity with two international conference presentations
At least one D1-ranked publication (pre- or post-PhD) or registered patent
Active participation in talent development (TDK/PhD supervision, elective lectures)
