Keio University enjoys a proud history as Japan’s first private institution of higher learning. Yukichi Fukuzawa established the university in 1858, in Edo (now Tokyo), as a school for Dutch studies. The Keio University Faculty of Policy Management and the Faculty of Environment and Information Studies offer two scholarships for exceptional students accepted through Admissions for Overseas Students (GIGA Program). Apply for these scholarships the same time you apply for the GIGA Program. Applications for these scholarships will not be accepted after entrance into Keio University.

Applicants may apply for both of two scholarships, but only one scholarship will be awarded if selected to be a recipient.

Scholarships for GIGA Program International Students - Keio University SFC for Bachelor Founded in 1858, Keio University is a private higher education institution located in the urban setting of the metropolis of Tokyo (population range of over 5,000,000 inhabitants). This institution has also branch campuses in the following location(s): Fujisawa. Officially accredited and/or recognized by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, Japan, Keio University is a very large (uniRank enrollment range: 30,000-34,999 students) coeducational higher education institution. Keio University offers courses and programs leading to officially recognized higher education degrees such as bachelor degrees in several areas of study. The admission rate range is 0-10% making this Japanese higher education organization a most selective institution. International students are welcome to apply for enrollment.

Eligibility Criteria

The following eligibility requirements apply to both of two scholarships. To be considered for these scholarships, you must:

• be accepted through Admissions for Overseas Students (GIGA Program) to enter the Faculty of Policy Management or the Faculty of Environment and Information Studies in September 2017

• be an incoming first-year student

• be a foreign national

Mentor Mitakai Scholarship

Admission Fee and Academic Fees for one year The scholarship recipient will be exempt from payment of the admission fee and academic fees for one year starting September 2017.                                          Merit Scholarship Supplement JPY 1,200,000 per year Students who show exceptional academic excellence will also receive the scholarship supplement

Masatada Kobayashi Scholarship

JPY 1,000,000 per year

The scholarship will be appropriated to the payment of academic fees required at the time of entering the University. The scholarship amount less the academic fees for the 2017 Fall Semester will be paid into the scholarship recipient’s bank account.
