Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) was established in 1985, opening its doors to the first intake of 176 students. Since then, UBD has seen an increase in the number of graduates, the introduction of new academic programmes, the enhancement of infrastructure and the development of graduate studies.
The university moved to its current location, Tungku Link, in 1995, an environment that is conducive for learning and research. UBD is guided by its four core values; people, expertise, relevance and leadership. Today, there are eight academic faculties, nine research institutes and six academic service centres ranging from Islamic Studies, Business, Arts, Science, Health Sciences, Asian Studies, Policy Studies, Education, Biodiversity and Integrated Technologies.
In a relatively short period of time, UBD has advanced and expanded both academically and infrastructurally, producing influential leaders, entrepreneurs and professionals. The university is always aligned to its mission of developing the individual and society as a whole through the cultivation and enrichment of the intellect, faith and culture, accomplished through the creation of an environment conducive to achieving excellence in teaching, learning, research, scholarship, public service and professional practice.
Over the past decade since higher education was introduced in the Sultanate, the government has awarded thousands of scholarships to both locals as well as non-locals to study in Universiti Brunei Darussalam.

Brunei Darussalam Government Scholarship
Brunei Darussalam Government Scholarship is offered to citizens of Negara Brunei Darussalam and to the International students to provide financial aid in the perusal of knowledge from undergraduate to graduate studies.
UBD Graduate Scholarship This scholarship is offered by Universiti Brunei Darussalam to outstanding local students who are interested in pursuing their studies in the Doctor of Philosophy level after achieving excellence in their Master's degree. This is a very competitive scholarship and applicants with academic talents and calibre are highly encouraged to apply. UBD Bursary The UBD Bursary is another funding scheme offered by Universiti Brunei Darussalam to local Doctor of Philosophy applicants from any programmes offered by the university with the vision of refining local minds who will be the next generation of academics in the institution.
Offered Benefits
Apart from tuitions borne by the government, the scholarship will also include the bursaries for accommodation, books, food, personal spending as well as complementary medical treatment at any Brunei Government hospitals whilst travel expenses will be arranged by the Brunei Darussalam Foreign Mission at the scholar's country of origin or the closest Brunei Darussalam Mission to their country.
