RISE - Research Internships in Science and Engineering

  •  Bachelor, Phd, Internship
  •   Poland

It offers unique opportunities for undergraduate students to work with research groups at universities and top research institutions across Germany. RISE interns are matched with doctoral students whom they assist and who serve as their mentors. The working language will be English.

RISE placements provide students the opportunity to live and work in an international context, to strengthen their practical and theoretical skills, and to improve their (or begin learning!) German. Last but not least, the research internship should be a source of mutual cultural enrichment for both the interns and their hosts.

Learning From Each Other

Beyond playing matchmaker for undergraduate research assistants and doctoral students, DAAD also invites all fellows to a three-day event during the summer where they have the opportunity to learn from each others experiences while exploring a historic city and a modern German multinational corporation.

Eligibility Criteria

To apply for a RISE placement you must:

  • be a citizen of Greece, Italy, Portugal or Spain.
  • be currently enrolled at a university/college in Greece, Italy, Portugal or Spain as a full-time student in the field of biology, chemistry, physics, earth sciences or engineering (or a closely related field)
  • be a Bachelor student who will have completed at least 2 years of a degree program by the time of the placement
  • prove that you will be registered as a Bachelor student at your university/college (i.e., that you will still have undergraduate status upon your return to your home university).

German language skills are not required for most positions but would be helpful to manage everyday life outside of the laboratory. The working language will generally be English.

Offered Benefits

DAAD will provide a monthly scholarship of 650 Euro for a period of 6-12 weeks (pro-rated depending on length of stay).

DAAD will also provide health insurance and accident and personal/private liability insurance and an allowance of 160 Euro for travel within Germany. The host institution will assist the intern in finding reasonably-priced housing for the duration of the internship. The scholarship covers also international travel costs from Greece, Italy, Portugal or Spain to Germany
