Applicant are invited for a 12 monthMPhil studentship availablein the area of X-Ray Physics and X-Ray imaging as part of a collaboration between the University of Leicester department of Physics and Astronomy, ERDF and industrial partner 3DX-Ray. 3DX-Ray are a global market technology leader in line-scan X-ray imagingsystems for security and industrial inspection. The research assistant will investigate pentration, contrast and physical resolution in relation to the imaging systems. Investigation will include assessing the phsyical interaction of x-rays with diverse targets, and the efficacy of imagng systems in a variety of situations. Some work may be done on fundamental imaging design and instrumentation. Objectives include: -(1)To evaluate the performance of existing X-ray imaging systems and incorporate real performance data into the system model.(2) To use the system model to investigate possible changes to the system that can improve the performance.
Deliverables will incldue: - (1) Quantitative analysis of the most significant factors affecting system performance in ranked order: (2) Verified (against experimental data) model for each of the top 3 influencing parameters (3) Predictions from the models of the theoretical limits of performance for the system.
Established in 1957, University of Leicester is a non-profit public higher education institution located in the suburban setting of the small city of Leicester (population range of 250,000-499,999 inhabitants), East Midlands. Officially accredited and/or recognized by the Privy Council, University of Leicester is a large (uniRank enrollment range: 15,000-19,999 students) coeducational higher education institution. University of Leicester offers courses and programs leading to officially recognized higher education degrees such as bachelor degrees, master degrees, doctorate degrees in several areas of study. See the uniRank degree levels and areas of study matrix below for further details. This 62 years old higher-education institution has a selective admission policy based on students' past academic record and grades. International applicants are eligible to apply for enrollment.
