The School of Medicine within Western Sydney University is offering Research Scholarships in Evaluation of Anti-inflammatory Compounds in Restoring K+ Homeostasis During Neurodegeneration for the academic year 2022/2023.

The project will be based at the Campbelltown campus of the School of medicine, with the opportunity to collaborate with Dr. Yossi Buskila on novel recording and imaging techniques such as patch clamp, optogenetics, and two-photon imaging.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Eligible Countries: All nationalities.
  • Eligible Course or Subjects: PhD degree in the evaluation of anti-inflammatory compounds in restoring K+ homeostasis during neurodegeneration offered by the university.
  • Eligibility Criteria: To be eligible, the applicants must meet all the following criteria:
  • Demonstrate strong academic performance in subjects relevant to Physiology, neuroscience, neurobiology or neurophysiology.
  • Have an understanding of the importance of research on neurodegenerative disorders.
  • Be willing to learn electrophysiological and imaging techniques applicable to neurophysiology.
  • Be enthusiastic and highly motivated to undertake further study at an advanced level.

Offered Benefits

The university will provide all the following benefits:

  • Domestic candidates will receive a tax-free stipend of $30,000(AUD) per annum for up to 3 years to support living costs, supported by the Research Training Program (RTP) Fee Offset.
  • International candidates will receive a tax-free stipend of $30,000(AUD) per annum for up to 3 years to support living costs. Those with a strong track record will be eligible for a tuition fee waiver.
  • Support for training, conference attendance, fieldwork and additional research costs as approved by the School.

  • Admission Requirements: International candidates are required to hold qualifications and experience equal to one of the following (i) an Australian First Class Bachelor (Honours) degree, (ii) coursework Master with at least 25% research component, (iii) a Research Masters degree, or (iv) equivalent overseas qualifications.
  • Language Requirement:  If your first language is  English or if you can provide satisfactory evidence that English was the medium of instruction in your secondary or tertiary studies at Western Sydney University
