The Passau International Centre for Advanced Interdisciplinary Studies (PICAIS) invites international scholars and postdoctoral researchers to apply for its Research-in-Residence Fellowships. These fellowships support short-term research stays of 2–6 months (with the possibility of longer visits) in collaboration with a University of Passau host.

To be eligible for the fellowships at the University of Passau, applicants must hold a doctoral degree and have a research project supported by at least one faculty member at the university, who will act as their host. The program is open to international scholars and postdoctoral researchers who are not currently employed by the University of Passau. Preference is given to projects related to the themes of Europe, Sustainability, and Digitalisation.

Research-in-Residence Fellowships in Germany Founded in 1973, Universität Passau (University of Passau) is a non-profit public higher education institution located in the urban setting of the large town of Passau (population range of 50,000-249,999 inhabitants), Bavaria. Officially accredited and/or recognized by the Bayerisches Staatsministerium für Wissenschaft und Kunst (Bavarian State Ministry for Science and Art), Universität Passau (UNIPASSAU) is a large (uniRank enrollment range: 10,000-14,999 students) coeducational higher education institution. Universität Passau (UNIPASSAU) offers courses and programs leading to officially recognized higher education degrees such as bachelor degrees, master degrees, doctorate degrees in several areas of study. This 46 years old higher-education institution has a selective admission policy based on students' past academic record and grades. International students are welcome to apply for enrollment.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Eligible Countries: Open to applicants worldwide

  • Acceptable Course or Subjects: The fellowship will be awarded in any discipline represented at the University of Passau

  • Admissible Criteria:

    • Applicants must hold a doctoral degree.

    • Applicants must not be current members or employees of the University of Passau.

    • Applications must be supported by at least one University of Passau faculty member (host).

    • Research projects should demonstrate academic excellence and innovation.

    • Preference given to projects aligned with the guiding themes: Europe, Sustainability, Digitalisation.
