Pulitzer Center’s AI Accountability Fellowship Program in Africa

Eligibility Criteria

• Eligible Countries: All African countries are eligible to apply
• Acceptable Course or Subjects: The scholarship will be awarded in any subject offered by the university
• Admissible Criteria: To be eligible, the applicants must meet all the given criteria:
• Experience and/or the ability to collaborate across newsrooms and countries is required.
• Reporters must be deeply interested in how AI affects the globe and why this topic is so important to our global well-being.

Offered Benefits

The fellowship program will grant journalists with up to $20,000 to pursue their reporting assignment over a 10-month period. The funding can be used to cover the costs of records requests, travel expenses, data analysis, and stipends. Furthermore, the Fellows will have access to mentors as well as relevant training with a group of peers, which will help develop their reporting projects.

Application Process

• How to Apply: Applicants are required to apply through an online application form.
• Supporting Documents: Applicants must provide the given supporting documents:
• A short statement of purpose.
• A detailed description of the reporting project you seek to pursue during your Fellowship.
• A letter of intent or commitment from a media organization(s) interested in publishing your stories.
• Three professional references.
• A copy of your resume or curriculum vitae.
• Admission Requirements: Applicants must fulfill the following admission requirements:
• Journalists must apply for a reporting project that they want to work on during their Fellowship.
• Successful applicants will be expected to attend a monthly 90-minute meeting as well as participate in virtual meetings and on the community’s dedicated online platform.
• Language Requirement: Applicants must fulfill one of the following language requirements:
• Applicants must be very fluent in the English language verbally as well as written.
