The University of Basel is offering the Propelling Grant, a funding program designed to help researchers transform their discoveries into impactful start-ups. Participants gain access to an acceleration program, investor meetings, workshops, mentoring, and expert networks to bridge the gap between research and market.

The study grant is open to researchers with an active affiliation to the University of Basel, including PhD candidates, postdocs, research assistants, professors, and university employees, for the entire duration of the grant.

Founded in 1460, the University of Basel is the oldest university in Switzerland and a leading public research institution. It was established in connection with the Council of Basel and has a long, rich history as a center of humanism and the Protestant Reformation. The university is known for its strong research focus, particularly in life sciences, medicine, and nanosciences. It offers a wide array of bachelor’s, master’s, and PhD programs across seven faculties.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Eligible Countries: All

  • Acceptable Course or Subjects: Funding is available for projects in any academic discipline offered by the University of Basel.

  • Admissible Criteria: Applicants must:

    • Have an active affiliation with the University of Basel (PhD candidates, Postdocs, Research Assistants, Professors, University Employees).

    • Maintain affiliation throughout the entire grant period.

    • Have a validated concept/technology or a first prototype.

    • Not be solely affiliated with the University Hospital Basel (USB) or University Children’s Hospital Basel (UKBB).

    • Proposals should not primarily fund basic research, experiments, or consumables.

Applicants must submit the following:

  1. Propelling Grant Application Form (DOCX)

  2. Propelling Grant Slide Deck (PPTX) following the provided template.

Submit both documents via the online application form (non-confidential information only). Applications are accepted year-round, with evaluations conducted twice annually (Spring and Fall).
