A valuable program for international students in Poland.The Pilecki Institute was established by the Polish Parliament on 9 November 2017. The Pilecki Institute is a Polish government institution in care of preserving the memory, documenting and researching the historical experiences of Polish citizens, and increasing awareness regarding totalitarianism in the 20th century. The Institute gathers researchers specializing in political science, sociology, history, and Jewish studies.

Why study at the Pilecki Institute? Pilecki Institute’s aim is to analyze the importance of the history of the 20th century of the Nazi and Soviet totalitarian regimes and the global consequences of their actions. The Institute is supervised by the Minister of Culture and National Heritage. The Scientific Department initiates and participates in interdisciplinary research projects devoted to totalitarianism and the history of Poland in the 20th century.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Eligible Countries: All nationalities.
  • Eligible Course or Subjects: Habilitated doctoral or academic professor in humanities offered by the university
  • Eligibility Criteria: To be eligible, the applicants must meet all the following criteria:
  • Documented achievements in scientific activities thematically related to the period being the subject of the Pilecki Institute’s research, in particular on the history of Poland in the 20th century, history of World War II, history of Polish-German relations, history of German and Soviet occupation in Poland, history of genocide in Poland.
  • Experience in conducting research in this field, confirmed by achievements in the form of scored scientific publications.
  • Experience in conducting research in the field of history, very good knowledge of Polish and foreign archives.
  • Predisposition to teamwork.
  • Experience in managing research teams.
  • Expression in the form of a declaration of readiness for employment at the Pilecki Institute as the primary place of work on a full-time basis; readiness to submit declarations by the Law on Higher Education and Science: a declaration on representing the field of humanities, the discipline of history and a declaration authorizing the Institute to be included among employees engaged in the scientific activity (number N) and to demonstrate the academic achievements of the employee to evaluate scientific activity.

  • Admission Requirements: Applicants must have the academic degree of a habilitated doctor or the academic title of professor.
  • Language Requirement:  The applicants must have a very good command of the spoken and written German language or a foreign language must be translated into Polish.
