  • Acceptable Course or Subjects: The scholarship will be awarded for Master’s by Research or PhD in Data Science at the School of Mathematics and Statistics, Faculty of Science at the University of Sydney.
  • Admissible Criteria: To be eligible, the applicants must meet all the given criteria:
  • Applicants can be a domestic or international student
  • Applicants must apply for a master’s by research or PhD
  • Applicants must have an unconditional offer of admission or be enrolled in a full-time Master by Research or PhD at the Faculty of Science.
  • Applicants must be willing to conduct research in the theory of deep learning or machine learning.
  • An applicant without an unconditional offer of admission may apply and be selected; however, no scholarship offer will be sent until the applicant has an unconditional offer of admission.
  • Applicants must have an unconditional offer of admission or be currently enrolled to study full-time in a Master by Research or PhD within the School of Mathematics and Statistics, Faculty of Science at the University of Sydney.

Offered Benefits

The University of Sydney will provide all the following:

  • This scholarship will provide an annual stipend allowance equivalent to the University of Sydney RTP rate (indexed on 1 January each year) and is subject to satisfactory academic performance.
  • A successful Master of Philosophy (MPhil) recipient may be awarded the scholarship for up to 1.75 years.
  • A successful Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) may be awarded the scholarship for up to three years with a potential six-month extension.
  • This scholarship will provide academic course fees and student services and amenities fee (ssaf) for the successful international student, subject to satisfactory academic performance.
  • A successful Master of Philosophy (MPhil) recipient may be awarded the academic course fees/ssaf portion of this scholarship for up to 7 research periods.
  • A successful Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) may be awarded the academic course fees/ssaf portion of this scholarship for up to twelve research periods.
  • An extension for up to two research periods is available to the PhD recipient of this scholarship.
  • The Scholarship will also cover overseas health cover for the successful international student recipient (single cover only) for the normal full-time duration of their higher degree studies.

  • Research proposal
  • Curriculum Vitae – including previous research experience
  • For admission:
  • Personal statement addressing research abilities and experience
  • Domestic students will need a passport or birth certificate, or citizenship certificate.
  • Any other documents, such as a portfolio of work or audition, specified in the course listing for applicants’ chosen degrees.
  • Final research proposal up to 2000 words, covering the objectives and significance of the research.
  • Official academic transcripts in the original language and English translation.
  • Curriculum Vitae or resume.
  • Evidence that a primary supervisor has agreed to supervise you.
  • Admission Requirements: All eligible applicants must meet the entry requirements to study at the University of Sydney.
  • Language Requirement: Applicants must meet English language qualifications if English is not the applicant’s first language.
