The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) is now accepting applications for Postdoctoral Researchers Position in International Mobility Experience. Funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), the fellowship provides an 18-month employment contract, expatriate and travel allowances, and strong support for career development.

To be eligible for this award, applicants must have completed their doctorate with excellent results (within the last six years), have at least one scientific publication, and propose a research project abroad with reintegration in Germany.

The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) is one of the world’s largest funding organizations supporting international academic exchange and cooperation. Established in 1925, DAAD promotes study, research, and teaching opportunities in Germany and abroad by offering scholarships, fellowships, and grants to students, researchers, and academics. It plays a key role in strengthening Germany’s global academic ties and fostering innovation, cultural exchange, and international collaboration in higher education and research.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Eligible Countries: All nationalities may apply.

  • Acceptable Course or Subjects: Fellowships are awarded in any academic discipline offered by German universities.

  • Admissible Criteria: To be eligible, applicants must:

    • Have completed their doctorate with excellent results before the start of funding.

    • Apply within six years of completing their doctorate (extensions possible for parental/care responsibilities).

    • Have at least one scientific publication (co-authorship accepted).

    • Fulfill the mobility rule: applicants must not have resided or carried out their main activity in the chosen host country abroad for more than 12 months in the last three years before the deadline.

    • Intend to continue their long-term academic career in Germany after completion of the fellowship.

    • Not hold a permanent employment contract with the intended host university.

    • Provide written confirmation from both a German host university (employment and mentorship) and a foreign host institution (infrastructure and research support).

Application Process

  • Applications must be submitted via the DAAD application portal.

  • Required documents include: application form, CV, career plan, research proposal (7–8 pages), time schedule, host institution confirmations (Germany & abroad), academic certificates, publication list, doctoral thesis summary, ethics checklist, and one confidential recommendation letter.
