The Department of Earth Science at the University of Bergen (UiB) invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Structural Geology. This 4-year position, associated with the DEFCOAL project funded by Aker BP, focuses on studying the effects of coal entrainment along faults and deformation bands in porous reservoir rocks.

To be eligible for the Postdoctoral Research Fellow position at the University of Bergen, applicants must hold a PhD in Structural Geology or a closely related field, or have submitted their doctoral thesis for assessment before the application deadline. Candidates should have strong experience in field-based structural geology and microstructural analysis, a proven ability to publish research at the international level, and good written and oral English skills.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Eligible Countries: International
  • Acceptable Course or Subjects: Structural Geology, Earth Science, or related geoscience fields
  • Admissible Criteria: To be eligible, applicants must meet all the following:
  • Hold a PhD in Structural Geology or have submitted a doctoral thesis prior to application deadline.

  • Experience in field-based structural geological work and microstructural characterization.

  • Proven research experience in publishing at the international level in English.

  • Ability to work independently, structured, and cooperatively.

  • Good written and oral English skills.

Additional Advantageous Qualifications:

  • Experience in deformation of porous clastic rocks.

  • Microanalytical experience on carbonaceous material.

  • Skills in optical, SEM, Cathodoluminescence microscopy, image analysis, Raman spectroscopy, vitrinite reflectance, and porosity/permeability measurements.

  • Relevant experience in rock deformation experiments and/or numerical modelling.
