The School of Culture and Society at Aarhus University is offering Postdoctoral Fellowships in the Research Project Locally Crafted Empires (LoCiS) for the academic session 2025/2026.

Applicants must hold a PhD in Classical Archaeology or a related field and have expertise in ancient visual culture. They should demonstrate research experience relevant to West Asia (100 BCE–500 CE), possess strong academic English skills, and be able to read German, French, and Italian.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Eligible Countries: All nationalities

  • Acceptable Course or Subjects: Postdoctoral research in Classical Archaeology, Eastern Roman provinces, or Near Eastern archaeology between 100 BCE – 500 CE, with a focus on ancient visual culture.

  • Admissible Criteria: To be eligible, applicants must:

    • Hold a PhD in Classical Archaeology or a closely related discipline.

    • Demonstrate expertise in ancient visual culture.

    • Show research experience relevant to West Asia from 100 BCE – 500 CE.

    • Submit up to two academic publications with the application.

    • Possess strong skills in academic English (speaking and writing).

    • Be able to read German, French, and Italian.

    • Exhibit strong organizational, interpersonal, and time-management skills.

    • Be able to work collaboratively on databases, catalogues, research publications, and conference activities.
