Postdoctoral Fellowships for Black Scholars at the Toronto Metropolitan University, Canada for PhD Established in 2003, Metropolitan University is a non-profit private higher education institution located in the urban setting of the medium-sized city of Sylhet (population range of 500,000-1,000,000 inhabitants). Officially accredited and/or recognized by the University Grants Commission of Bangladesh, Metropolitan University (MU) is a very small (uniRank enrollment range: 1,000-1,999 students) coeducational higher education institution. Metropolitan University (MU) offers courses and programs leading to officially recognized higher education degrees such as bachelor degrees, master degrees in several areas of study. This 16 years old higher-education institution has a selective admission policy based on entrance examinations and students' past academic record and grades. The admission rate range is 60-70% making this Bangladeshi higher education organization a somewhat selective institution.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Eligible Countries: Students from Black (of African descent; for example, Africans and African heritage people from the Caribbean, Americas, and Europe) are eligible to apply.
  • Acceptable Course or Subjects: The scholarship will be awarded for a PhD degree in any subject offered by the university
  • Admissible Criteria: To be eligible, the applicants must meet all the given criteria:
  • Applicants who self-identify as Black (of African descent; for example, Africans and African heritage people from the Caribbean, Americas, and Europe).
  • Applicant completion of a PhD or PhD equivalent within the last three years before the application deadline, or PhD expected by the planned start date of the fellowship.
  • They can hold the fellowship for two years by September 5, 2023.
  • Successful applicants must be eligible to work in Canada by the start of the Postdoctoral position. The exceptional start dates may be negotiated about the permit and visa process timelines. International applicants may apply; however, successful international applicants will require a work permit and Canadian Social Insurance Number to take the postdoctoral position.
  • They must be associated with a current or proposed supervisor who holds a tenured or tenure-track faculty position at TMU and must include a letter of support from the proposed supervisor.
  • This funding cannot be held concurrently with another major fellowship.
  • Applicants cannot have a faculty position or be on leave from such a position.
  • Applicants must submit proof of completion of the degree before the fellowship commences.
