PhD Studentships

  •  Bachelor, Master, Phd, Fellowship

Applications are invited for full time research studentships leading to the degree of PhD commencing in September. The funding for these studentships will be available for one year in the first instance, extended (for registered students only) for a second and then third year providing verifiable progress has been made (in teaching and research).

Eligibility Criteria

  • Applicants should normally have obtained, or be about to obtain an undergraduate degree of at least Upper Second Class Honours level (2:1 or equivalent from other countries), or a postgraduate degree.
  • It would be an advantage if applicants could demonstrate how their research will contribute to existing debates in their field, as well as how the candidate will contribute to our vibrant postgraduate community at KLS. It is expected that successful applicants will undertake research in areas of research strength of the school. We particularly welcome research proposals in socio-legal and critical legal studies – that is, applicants who demonstrate a capacity to reflect on the methodology of their research from a theoretically informed perspective.

Offered Benefits

Those awarded a studentship will normally be expected to teach a maximum of four hours per week in term time on an undergraduate law module, at the direction of the Head of School. Some bursaries (for example, reducing overseas fee to home fee rate) may also be available.
