The School of Social and Political Science invite applications for PhD research that focus on the development or application of advanced quantitative methods skills in the social science context. There is flexibility in the nature of the research undertaken. Project proposals may make a methodological contribution by, for example, developing or refining a quantitative technique. Or may apply advanced quantitative methods in a novel way to contribute to a social science question. Or may focus on contributions within data science, such as, linked datasets to provide new insights to social research questions.

Eligibility Criteria
A good first degree (at least 2:1), and evidence of sufficient quantitative studies to follow the Quantitative Methods pathway of MSc Social Research Methods.
Applicants will also need to apply for PhD for deferred entry (as per normal 1+3 processes)
Offered Benefits
The studentship is available as a 1+3 (MSc and PhD) programme and will commence in September 2020.
The award includes:
- tuition fees for the MSc Social Research (Quantitative Methods), followed by 3 years for the PhD in a subject area or across areas within the School at the Home/EU rate tuition rate.
- an annual maintenance grant at the RCUK rate (in 2019/20 this is £15,009).
All PhD students in the School of Social and Political Science can apply to the PhD Research Support Fund for help with fieldwork and other research-related costs throughout their period of study.
