The PhD position in Clinical Epidemiology, Public Health and Health Systems at the University of Basel is open to highly motivated candidates with a master’s degree in bioinformatics, clinical research, epidemiology, nursing, psychology, public health, or related health sciences.

Applicants must have strong academic records, experience in oncology or cancer epidemiology, and solid statistical and analytical skills. Proficiency in English and either German, French, or Italian is required. Announced for a start in September 2025, the position offers a fully funded opportunity within the interdisciplinary CASCADE Consortium to contribute to impactful research on hereditary cancer syndromes.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Eligible Countries: All nationalities

  • Acceptable Course or Subjects: The scholarship will be awarded in Clinical Epidemiology, Public Health, Health Systems, or other health-related sciences offered by the university

  • Admissible Criteria: To be eligible, the applicants must meet all the following criteria:

    • Hold a Master’s degree (M.Sc.) in bioinformatics, clinical research, epidemiology, nursing, psychology, public health, or other health-related fields.

    • Possess outstanding academic records and evidence of scholarly achievements.

    • Have experience in oncology and/or cancer epidemiology and/or cancer registries.

    • Demonstrate strong quantitative and statistical analysis skills.

    • Be proficient in using analytical tools (e.g., R, Python, SPSS).

    • Be able to work independently and collaboratively in an interdisciplinary, international setting.

    • Show fluency in English and either German, French, or Italian.

    • Prior experience in AI-based analytics is highly desirable.

  • The PhD will be carried out within a 3-year project, starting in September 2025 (negotiable). The successful candidate will have access to data from the CASCADE study and will determine the focus of his/her program of research under the auspices of Prof. Dr. Katapodi and with the collaboration of members of the CASCADE Consortium.

  • Compensation according to the official payment structure of the Swiss National Science Foundation for PhD level students.
