The University of Liverpool is delighted to announce the International PhD Studentships in Developing a New Risk and Needs Assessment Tool in the UK. The studentship is funded by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) viva the North West Social Sciences Doctoral Training Partnership (NWSSDTP). The applications are now open for the academic year 2022-2023.

This project represents an exciting opportunity to develop a novel instrument for the assessment of risk and needs for young people who have sexually displayed harmful sexual behavior. The successful candidate will work together with academic supervisors and an industry partner who provides therapeutic services to children and young people who have displayed sexually harmful behaviors.

Offered Benefits

The award is for a three year PhD studentship (October 2022 start date), and includes:

  • Payment of academic fees, at the standard UKRI Home rate
  • Maintenance Stipend (£15,609 in 2021/22, exact rate for 2022/23 subject to confirmation from UKRI)
  • Access to a Research Training Support Grant (RTSG) for reimbursement of research-related expenses including – but not limited to – conference attendance, training courses, and UK fieldwork.

Application Process

  • Supporting Documents: Applicants should submit a CV with two references and a personal statement highlighting their suitability for the proposed research and relevant experience in the proposed area of study. Applicants should highlight relevant skills in psychological research, including research design and research methods, statistics, and their motivation and preparedness to engage in doctoral-level research.
  • Admission Requirements: The applicants must have a first or upper second-class degree in psychology or a related discipline and an appropriate master’s level qualification with Merit or Distinction.
  • Language Requirement: All students applying to the University of Liverpool must demonstrate that they are competent in the use of the English language and satisfy the University’s requirements.
