PhD Scholarships in Developing New Dynamics of Australian Vegetation (DAVE) Established in 1989, Western Sydney University is a non-profit public higher education institution located in the suburban setting of the large town of Penrith (population range of 50,000-249,999 inhabitants), New South Wales. Eligibility Criteria

  • Eligible Countries: All nationalities.
  • Eligible Course or Subjects: PhD degree in Developing New Dynamics of Australian Vegetation (DAVE) Model
  • Eligibility Criteria: To be eligible, the applicants must meet all the following/given criteria:
  • Hold qualifications and experience equal to one of the following (i) an Australian First Class Bachelor (Honours) degree, (ii) coursework Master with at least 25% research component, (iii) a Research Masters’s degree, or (iv) equivalent overseas qualifications.
  • Demonstrate strong academic performance in an area related to the project, such as environmental science (e.g. remote sensing, plant ecology, biogeography) or quantitative science (e.g. maths, computer science, data analysis).
  • Have excellent quantitative skills, with some knowledge of computer programming being an advantage (relevant languages include R, Python, C++, and Fortran) and we would be pleased to find applicants with experience in vegetation modelling, remote sensing and/or data assimilation.
  • Be enthusiastic about the project topic, with either demonstrated knowledge of Australian vegetation or keenness to learn.
  • Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Offered Benefits

Domestic candidates will receive a tax-free stipend of $30,000(AUD) per annum for up to 4 years to support living costs, supported by the Research Training Program (RTP) Fee Offset. International candidates will receive a tax-free stipend of $30,000(AUD) per annum for up to 4 years to support living costs at Western Sydney University.

Substantial benefits in terms of additional operational funding for project fieldwork and data collection and travel and conference attendance as approved by the Institute.

Application Process

  • How to Apply: To be considered for a scholarship, you need to  apply for admission to a research degree. If you are assessed as eligible for admission, you will be considered for the project scholarship under a competitive process.If you are already enrolled in the equivalent research degree at Western Sydney University, you do not need to submit an application for admission.
  • Supporting Documents: The applicants must submit the following documents:
  • Certified copies of your transcript and testamur for all previous academic qualifications.
  • Certified copy of your Passport or Birth Certificate.
  • A research proposal
  • You need a document to be certified you must have both the copy and original with you.
  • Admission Requirements: The applicants must hold a master’s degree from a recognized university.
  • Language Requirement: The applicants must attain minimum required scores on the following English language proficiency tests:
  • IELTS Academic – 6.5
  • TOEFL IBT – 82
  • PTE – 58
