PhD Fellowships in Subsurface Geosciences for International Students, Norway Established in 1994, Universitetet i Stavanger (University of Stavanger) is a non-profit public higher education institution located in the suburban setting of the large town of Stavanger (population range of 50,000-249,999 inhabitants), Rogaland. Eligibility Criteria

  • Eligible Countries: All nationalities.
  • Eligible Course or Subjects: PhD degree in Subsurface Geosciences in Energy Technology, geochemistry, geology, geomorphology, geophysics, and seismology or Geothermal energy potential of the Norwegian North Sea, a regional to field-scale evaluation by the university.
  • Eligibility Criteria: To be eligible, the applicants must meet all the following criteria:
  • The applicants must have knowledge in the interpretation of seismic and well logs.
  • The applicants must have an experience in basin modeling, structural restoration, reservoir modeling, and geothermal exploration.
  • The applicants must have knowledge of software such as DecisionSpace, Petrel, Move, Petro MOd, and Eclipse.
  • Applicants with one year of completed university studies in Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, United Kingdom, USA
  • Applicants with an International Baccalaureate (IB) diploma
  • Applicants with completed bachelor’s and master’s degrees taught in English in an EU/EEA country.

The University of Stavanger will provide 491 200 gross per year with salary development according to seniority in the position. A higher salary may be considered in exceptional cases. 2% is deducted from the salary as a contribution to the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund.

  • Admission Requirements: Applicants must have a strong academic background and have completed a five-year master’s degree (3+2) within geosciences, preferably relatively recent or equivalent education that will provide the basis for undertaking organized research training.
  • To be eligible for admission to the doctoral programs at the University of Stavanger, both the grade for your master’s thesis and the weighted average grade of your master’s degree must individually be equivalent to or better than a B grade. If you finish your education (master’s degree) in 2022, you are also welcome to apply.
  • Language Requirement: A good proficiency in English is required for anyone attending the PhD program. International applicants must document this by taking one of the following tests with the following results:
  • TOEFL – Test of English as a Foreign Language, Internet-Based Test (IBT). Minimum result: 90
  • IELTS – International English Language Testing Service. Minimum result: 6.5
  • Certificate in Advanced English (CAE) or Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE) from the University of Cambridge
  • PTE Academic – Pearson Test of English Academic. Minimum result: 62
