UiT The Arctic University of Norway is offering a PhD fellow Position in Solid Earth Sciences. The project focuses on the impact of deformation and metamorphism on graphite ore mineralization in Precambrian rocks of northern Norway.

To be eligible for this PhD position, applicants must have a master’s degree in Geology or a related field, with a focus on structural geology or metamorphic petrology. They should have fieldwork experience and be physically fit to work in remote, challenging environments. Good English skills are required, and candidates must hold a valid driver’s license before starting.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Acceptable Course or Subjects: The scholarship will be awarded in Solid Earth Sciences, Structural Geology, Metamorphic Petrology, and related fields offered by UiT.

  • Admissible Criteria: To be eligible, applicants must:

    • Hold a Master’s degree in Geology or equivalent, with a focus on structural geology and/or metamorphic petrology

    • Demonstrate ability to conduct fieldwork in remote and challenging terrain

    • Have good written and spoken English skills

    • Hold or obtain a valid Norwegian class B driver’s license before the start date

    • Submit a 3-page project description outlining the academic foundation and methodology of the proposed research

    • Be qualified for admission to UiT’s PhD programme (minimum GPA of C or equivalent, sufficient research potential)

    • Applicants near completion of their Master’s may apply with proof of progress.
